The Stereo 20 is a low power (10W per channel) valve amplifier using small tubes (EL84s) and a simple circuit, but excellent transformers. Probably not the thing you're looking for. But why, in 20 years of swapping components in and out do I come back to it as the amplifier in my main system? Because it embodies the virtues of valve amplifiers: it is not dull-sounding, but natural. The bass has limitations but is delightful to listen to. Voices are almost without parallel. With a pair of LS3/5a, Kef 101 or JR 149s it is bliss (the front end can be an iPhone and the system will still be a delight). Many prefer them to Quad IIs. 10w is fine for normal speakers in normal rooms.
This is the kind of component you will have for life. The valves are all common in guitar amps and will be available forever. Many experts in the UK can service them.
We have three, around this price. New valves on one (around £100 all in), Mullards on another, and the third a little tatty but working well. All have been serviced / rebuilt by a renowned UK technician.
We would be delighted to show them to you!
